Allianz Visitors to Canada Insurance provides emergency medical coverage for non-residents arriving in Canada who are not insured under a Canadian provincial health plan. Super visa: The $100,000 plan meets the minimum insurance requirement for parents and grandparents applying for a Canadian super visa (minimum 1 year of coverage, minimum $100,000 emergency medical).

Eligibility

Coverage is NOT available to any individual who, as of their effective date:

  • Has been diagnosed with a terminal illness; or
  • Has been diagnosed with stage 3 or 4 cancer; or
  • Has received treatment for any cancer (other than basal or squamous cell skin cancer, or breast cancer treated only with hormone therapy) in the past 3 months; or
  • Requires assistance with activities of daily living as the result of a medical condition.

To be eligible for coverage, you must, as of the effective date:

  • Be at least 15 days old and not more than 89 years old; and
  • Not be insured or eligible for benefits under a Canadian government health insurance plan; and
  • Be in good health at the time you purchase your policy and on the date you exit your country of origin, and know of no reason to seek medical consultation during the period of coverage.
Pre-existing conditions: This plan contains pre-existing condition exclusions for travellers of any age. Medical conditions or signs and symptoms that existed on or before your departure date or effective date are not covered. If your health changes between the purchase date and the effective date, contact your insurance representative immediately.

Waiting Period

A 48-hour waiting period applies to sickness-related claims if you purchase your policy after the expiry of an existing Allianz-administered policy, or after you have already exited your country of origin. Any sickness that manifests during this 48-hour waiting period is not covered, even if expenses are incurred afterward.

  • War, acts of war, civil unrest, terrorism, political risk
  • Natural disasters, nuclear reaction, or radiation
  • Acts, prohibitions, or travel advisories by government authority

Claims & Emergency Assistance

Contact Allianz Global Assistance before seeking treatment. In a serious emergency, get to hospital immediately and have someone call within 24 hours of admission and before any surgery. Failure to call without reasonable cause results in benefits being limited to 80% of eligible expenses. Submit a completed claim form with all original bills and receipts to Allianz Global Assistance.
