Blue Cross Travel Insurance is for Canadian residents who are enrolled in a provincial or territorial government health plan. It covers emergency medical expenses that your provincial plan will not pay while you're travelling — including hospital stays, physician fees, ambulance transport, and prescription drugs. Trip Cancellation and Interruption

Single-Trip: covers the full amount of prepaid non-refundable travel expenses if your trip is cancelled before departure or interrupted after departure due to a covered event (illness, death, travel advisories, and other listed reasons). Multi-Trip Annual: $1,500, $2,000, $2,500, or $5,000 per trip. The Option: Cancel for Any Reason can be added to both plans.

Accidental Death or Dismemberment (AD&D)

Up to $300,000 depending on age and circumstances. Available as part of Single-Trip and Multi-Trip Annual plans.

Baggage

Up to $1,500 for loss, theft, damage, or destruction of baggage and personal effects.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

Blue Cross Travel Insurance covers stable pre-existing conditions. A condition is stable when there have been no new symptoms, no deterioration, no change in treatment, and no test results pending.

Option: Reduced Stability Period — For travellers aged 55–59 travelling 18 days or more, and for all travellers aged 60–84, an optional Reduced Stability Period of 3 months (instead of 6) is available. Certain serious cardiovascular, neurological, and pulmonary conditions are always excluded regardless of stability.

Key Exclusions

Blue Cross Travel Insurance does not cover:

  • Travel against a physician's advice or with a terminal diagnosis
  • Kidney disease treated with dialysis (ages 55+) or metastatic cancer diagnosed in the past 5 years (ages 55+)
  • Pulmonary hospitalization in the past 12 months or home oxygen in the past 12 months (ages 55+)
  • Unstable pre-existing conditions (beyond the stated stability periods)
  • Routine check-ups, elective, experimental, or rehabilitation treatments
  • Pregnancy, childbirth, and related complications
  • Mental health disorders
  • High-risk sports and activities
  • Illegal acts
